چکیده

As part of a study of the natural history of protozoa at a grassland site at Sourhope, in Scotland, the potential for soil samples to support the growth of naked amoebae was assessed using an indirect dilution/culture method. Populations of up to 73,000 per gram dry weight of soil were detected, and a total of 48 putative species were distinguished using light microscopy. A further six putative species were detected when a different culturing method was employed. The wide range of families and genera represented included Acanthamoeba, Saccamoeba, Cochliopodium, Vexillifera, Korotnevella and the Vahlkampfiidae, and several new species were isolated. Naked amoebae of lens like, acanthopodial and dactylpodial morphotypes were detected most frequently, and were most widely distributed across the one hectare site.

Grassland management regimens reduce small-scale heterogeneity and species diversity of beta-proteobacterial ammonia pxidizer populations.

The impact of soil management practices on ammonia oxidizer diversity and spatial heterogeneity was determined in improved (addition of N fertilizer), unimproved (no additions), and semi-improved (intermediate management) grassland pastures at the Sourhope Research Station in Scotland. Ammonia oxidizer diversity within each grassland soil was assessed by PCR amplification of microbial community...

Effects of Fertilization and Clipping on Carbon, Nitrogen Storage, and Soil Microbial Activity in a Natural Grassland in Southern China

Grassland managements can affect carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) storage in grassland ecosystems with consequent feedbacks to climate change. We investigated the impacts of compound fertilization and clipping on grass biomass, plant and soil (0-20 cm depth) C, N storage, plant and soil C: N ratios, soil microbial activity and diversity, and C, N sequestration rates in grassland in situ in the Natio...

Effect of Different Forest Types on Soil Properties and Biodiversity of Grassland Cover and Regeneration in Central Hyrcanian

In this study we evaluate the effects of different types on soil Physical and chemical Properties and plant species biodiversity in the hyrcanian forests of Iran. For this porpuse 33 sample plots were established in 5 vegetation types consist of pure beech (Fagus orientalis), Ash plantation (fraxinus excelsior), spruce plantation (Picea abies), mixed forest and degraded forest. In each ...

Plant functional diversity enhances associations of soil fungal diversity with vegetation and soil in the restoration of semiarid sandy grassland

The trait-based approach shows that plant functional diversity strongly affects ecosystem properties. However, few empirical studies show the relationship between soil fungal diversity and plant functional diversity in natural ecosystems. We investigated soil fungal diversity along a restoration gradient of sandy grassland (mobile dune, semifixed dune, fixed dune, and grassland) in Horqin Sand ...

Soil bacterial and fungal diversity differently correlated with soil biochemistry in alpine grassland ecosystems in response to environmental changes

To understand effects of soil microbes on soil biochemistry in alpine grassland ecosystems under environmental changes, we explored relationships between soil microbial diversity and soil total nitrogen, organic carbon, available nitrogen and phosphorus, soil microbial biomass and soil enzyme activities in alpine meadow, alpine steppe and cultivated grassland on the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau unde...
